Las Vegas and Metallica are rocking it. With the band’s residency at the Sphere drawing fans from around the globe, Hard Rock Cafe Las Vegas is turning up the volume with a free pop-up experience on its second floor, and the grand finale lands Friday, October 23.

The headliner for locals is photographer Jeffery Newbury, who will host a free meet-and-greet from 2 to 4 p.m. Newbury shot the band during the making of its 1991 self-titled album, better known as “The Black Album,” and his photography display captures a pivotal moment in metal history. That record sold in the tens of millions and turned a thrash band into a stadium-sized force. Fans can snap photos with Newbury in front of his exhibit, and a QR code at the photo wall lets you browse and order prints straight from the source.
Then there’s the memorabilia, which is where the pop-up earns its stripes. Highlights include Jason Newsted’s custom GMP bass, covered in his own hand-drawn artwork and signature, and Lars Ulrich’s handwritten lyrics for “Seek and Destroy.” You’ll also find James Hetfield’s “Greatest Guitar Moment” poll, in which he recounts a guitar-smashing memory and name-checks other musicians he admires. Kirk Hammett’s 1985 Gibson Flying V, used for the band’s November 2008 performance of “Master of Puppets” in Tulsa, is on display too, complete with a smidge of shaving cream left from the birthday celebration that followed the show. Rock and roll is nothing if not dignified.
Rounding out the collection are a Hetfield-signed Gibson Explorer, a band-signed Hard Rock Cafe Copenhagen T-shirt, and a 5X Platinum CD award from Elektra Records, all spanning the band’s 45-year history.
Thirsty? The meet-and-greet coincides with Seek & Enjoy Happy Hour, featuring four Metallica-inspired cocktails. Happy hour runs 1 to 4 p.m., Thursday through Sunday, on Metallica show weekends.
For the weddings-and-vows crowd, the pop-up also offers Metallica-themed weddings, vow renewals, and photo opportunities. Nothing says “till death do us part” like a Flying V in the background!

The details: The pop-up is free and open to all ages, with no tickets or reservations required, during Hard Rock Cafe Las Vegas operating hours. It’s located at 3771 Las Vegas Blvd. South, on the second floor, and is planned to run through March 2027, depending on the band’s residency and touring schedule.
Whether you’re a lifelong fan or just in town for the Sphere shows, this one’s worth a detour.
